Hello from www.MushBuddies.com Substrate supplies Hello from www.SporeBuddies.com Spore supplies Instructions for sterilised Brown Rice Flour Or Rye Grain spawn bags/grow bags. 1 In a clean room with no drafts. Spray down your work surface with alcohol spray. Remove the packaging and keep. Break up the Brown Rice Flour contents to a fluffy mix. Wipe the black injection ports with the provided alcohol swabs. 2 Put on your face mask and gloves. Shake up syringe contents and remove the cap from needle. Do not let the needle touch anything. Do not breath on needle or injection port. If you do, heat sterilise the needle until the tip is red hot and allow to cool and wipe the injection port again. Flame sterilise between each bag. Insert needle fully into the bag and as you are removing the needle, administer about 2-10ml of solution. If you have any left over, flame sterilise the needle and replace the needle cap and keep syringe in the fridge at 2-8degC for next time round. 3 For Brf bags you can now massage the spore solution around in the bag. Breaking up the block of substrate as you go. As well as adding air into the mix, this will massivly speed up colonisation of the Brf substrate Buy a digital thermometer with a temperature probe. Do not fold the bags back up but rather leave the bag tops standing tall and put the bags back in box. Put the box somewhere dark and warm (25degC for Brf and 22 for rye grain) Test the temperature at bottom of box (under bags) every few hours for the first 24hrs. Then have a quick look every day. Temp is very important. If your grow space is not at this temp at all times/night. Buy your self a thermostaticaly controlled heat mat. A reptile heat mat will be too hot to use directly, so if the heat mat is not adjustable use towels or jumpers to raise the grow box up away from the heat mat. 4 Within 4-14days (species dependent) in the warm dark box. You will see white spots of mycelium growing inside the bag. 5 About 7days after you see life. The white mycelium will have grown enough to break up the bags contents again. Leave no lumps or clumps. This will break up the mycelium and distribute it throughout the rest of the substrate. Speeding up the process of colonisation. (Do not open the bag. Push through the plastic). You can now mould the substrate into any shape you like. If you are fruiting directly from the bag. Make the top surface flat with your hand. Gently press the mix down into the bag to flatten the top. This flat surface will give an even pin set. If you want to fruit cakes form the substrate into jar like colums. DO NOT OPEN BAGS Leave for 7 more days and the bag should be fully colonised and solid white. At this point you need to make a choice how are you going to fruit your colonised mycelium cake. The three basic option are, Fruit from the bag-Grow Bag, Birth the cakes-dunk and roll-Shotgun Fruiting Chamber or Transfer to a bulk substrate-Mono Tub. If your wanting to fruit directly from this bag. Please add a sterilised vermiculite casing layer Now. Cakes can be Birthed from the bag, dunked in sterilised soak water for 12-24hrs and rolled in dry sterilised Fine Vermiculite. Placed into a fruiting chamber on a bed of perlite. Common Teks are SHOTGUN FRUITING CHAMBER. Colonised substrate can be broken up and layered into a MONO TUB FOR BULK GROW. Start with a 1cm layer of bulk, then spawn, then bulk, then spawn etc ending with a 1cm layer of bulk. Or spawn can be mixed into the Bulk Substrate bags and fruited there. We think FRUITING FROM THE BAG is the easiest method going. 6 To add a vermiculite casing layer for fruiting from this bag. Cut the very top off the colonised substrate bag. You only need to sprinkle a tiny bit of vermiculite onto the surface of each cake. This will make tiny microclimates where pins can grow. Now Close off the top of the bag by rolling over the top of the bag and adding an Easy Glide Bag Sealer (check site). Allow the mycelium another 4-5days to grow up through the vermiculite and your ready to fruit. Adding to bulk substrate. see bottom 7 You have Either added sterilised vermiculite to fruit straight from the bag or you have decided to transfer to a bulk substrate or similar. If you want to grow bulk and maximise those yields. Www. Mushbuddies.com sell a complimentary Horse manure bulk substrate, vermiculite and other products on our website and on Ebay. See bottom article for bulk substrate. If you are Fruiting cakes from the original bag. 1 COLD SHOCK. Boil up a cup of water for each bag you want to fruit. Cover and let cool. Open one grow bag at a time and gently pour a cooled cup of water into each bag. Seal each bag with paper clip as you go. When all bags have heat sterilised but now cooled water in them. Put them in the grow box and put that in the fridge for 12hrs @ 2-8degC.Bulk substrates do not need to be placed in the fridge or soaked before the first flush. 2 Drain the water well. You can tilt bags while they are still closed up. Leave for 15mins and drain water from bag. 3 When drained open all bags and fan bag tops for 40seconds with a piece of cardboard. Close the bags. 4 Fruiting. To start fruiting you need to turn on your led lights. 12hrs on and 12hrs off. You also want to remove or adjust the heat mat. So the temps drop. Keeping to around 20-23degC. 5 From now on you will need to open the bags 3times a day. Spray a small squirt of fine mist on the inside of the bags and then fan the bag tops for 40-90 seconds. TO SAVE TIME ALL BAGS CAN BE FANNED AT THE SAME TIME. Continue until you see tiny pins/mushrooms appear. When the mushroom pins are 5mm to 10mm tall you can reduce the misting to once a day but continue to fan 3 times a day for 40-90 seconds, continue until your mushrooms are mature and harvest mushroom according to species. For a lot of you, this will be when the mushroom cap tears the veil that holds the cap to the stem. You will know when this happens The idea here is to have enough moisture inside the bag to have small beads of moisture on the substrate surface without those droplets collecting and pooling. We like a moist surface for pin set and a slightly drier surface for mature the mushrooms. For bulk substrate 1 When spawn bags are fully colonised. Break up the Mycelium. 2 Cut the top off the bulk substrate bag. Cut the top off the colonised substrate bag. Pour broken up spawn into the Bulk Substrate bag and mix the two well by holding the bag closed and shaking. 3 Seal with an Easy Glide Bag SealerPut Back in the warm place but cover the bulk substrate so its in the dark. 4 Leave until the bulk substrate is fully colonised (about 7 days). 5 To fruit this bulk substrate from the bag just follow instructions from part 4 of COLD SHOCK. DO NOT SOAK. This product is fully hydrated for you. Check out the website for other products WWW.MUSHBUDDIES.COM. All items can be purchased or requested via the site. Feel free to contact me at MushBuddiesSales@Gmail.com if you have any questions, would like any more help or need clarification on any of the above points. I'm sure you have seen different Teks and have ideas of your own. These instructions serve only as a Starting Block from which you can launch your hobby. I personally like to grow Edible Mushrooms in a MonoTub. I inoculate my spawn bag and when its fully colonised i break it all up and layer it with Horse manure bulk substrate into the plastic lined MonoTub. If i tried to explain every method there is I would need to write a book. Please do read up on mycology and don't be afraid to ask questions. We all have to start somewhere Good Luck
